Math is Cool- High School Contest

Last week, the Royal High School participated in the Math is Cool Contest for the very first time at the high school level. The contest took place at Columbia Basin College in Pasco. Mrs. Mimi Christensen, their coach, accompanied by Mrs. Jess Christensen, brought a total of 22 students to this contest.
Mrs. Mimi Christensen is happy to report that they had a great experience overall! The students embraced the unknown and had lots of fun challenging themselves with advanced Math problems. They were also seen making friends and exchanging experiences and thoughts with peers from other schools. When going up against tough schools, these students stayed optimistic and remained supportive to their peers.
The following are the awards received at the awards ceremony last night:
Best in School - Geometry: Kylee Orth
Best in School - Algebra 2: Bryson Piper
Best in School- Pre-Calculus: Jerry Fielding
Best in School-Calculus: Ben Jenks
Overall 4th Place in the 9th/10th Grade Division e level.
Considering the short amount of time and limited opportunity to practice, Mrs. Mimi Christensen is very proud of the students' achievements. All 22 students showcased great determination and excellence in Math. There were parents who showed up at the high school, excited about the opportunity and asking when the next contest would be! Mrs. Christensen is thankful for the funding and providing these students with this invaluable experience. Go Knights!
